Port handles cargo in support of Barents Region industry, providing a gateway to northern Finland, Sweden and Norway, also the Murmansk area of Russia. The Port of Kemi is operated as a limited company (since 2012). The main commercial activities of Kemi take place at Ajos Harbour. Cargoes handled at the port include petroleum products and chemicals at a dedicated tanker berth and dry bulk, forest products, Ro-Ro, containers, metals and general cargo from multipurpose berths.
