A lighterage area for LPG carriers too large to proceed on the Estero Salado is also available near the river entrance.

The city of Guayaquil is located 275 km. SW of Quito, on the west bank of the Rio Guayas approx. 60 n.m. from the sea. Puerto Nuevo is located to the south of the city on the Estero Salado, approx. 50 n.m. from the sea.
